Melanie George is the Dance Program Director and full-time Instructor of dance at American University. Melanie is a performer, choreographer, writer and teacher of dance, and a Certified Movement Analyst. Melanie has an extensive teaching history including positions with The Roeper School for the Gifted and Talented, and the Washington School of Ballet. From 2004-2008, she was an Assistant Professor of Dance and Dance Education Program Coordinator at Kent State University. Her choreography includes works for concert dance, theater, musical theater and voice. Her choreography was recently commissioned by the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and Kent State University. Melanie has presented her research on jazz dance pedagogy throughout the U.S., in Canada and Scotland. She serves on the National Dance Education Organization’s Board of Directors, and is on the faculty of the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. In addition to teaching at AU, Melanie directs the Spring Dance Concert and is choreographer for the fall musical theatre mainstage production.
